Success Stories
Nurturing Children and Youth
Thanks to United Way of Northern NM funds, Tony goes to an after-school program where he
finishes his homework and has a chance to play with friends before his dad picks him up
after work. A supervised, safe, and low cost after-school program is reassuring for Tony's
dad.
Strengthening Families
Jackie is a single mom with two young children. She earns minimum wage as a nurse's aide. The
old leaky trailer they rented was making her daughter's asthma worse. They were able to buy a
healthy affordable house – the first place that they could call their own. The kids decorated
their rooms and Jackie planted flowers. Now they feel a part of the neighborhood.
Improving Health & Healing
Carol was in a car accident. She had a long road ahead to recovery and was not able to return
to work. The financial support she received helped cover her medical bills and prevented a
foreclosure on her home. Recovering at home added a sense of stability to her life.
Enriching the Lives of our Elders
Josie, 83 years old, felt forgotten by her family–they didn't call, stop by, or help in any way.
Thanks to United Way of Northern NM, she sees Ramona coming to her door and says, "Oh goodie!
Ramonacita never forgets me!" Loneliness is a hard emotion to deal with...and we do it lovingly!
