LINDSBORG -- Carl William Peterson was born in Fremont, Kan., on Sept. 22, 1919, the youngest child of the W.A. Peterson and Anna C. (Ternstrom) Peterson family. He passed away June 1, 2009.
He graduated from Lindsborg High School and Bethany College, having been a pupil of Dr. Birger Sandzen. Graduate studies were completed at the University of Colorado, Boulder, with additional work done at Columbia University, New York, N.Y.
It was evident at an early age that Carl found his life's interest in the Fine Arts and to that end he pursued it his entire life. Not only was he a teacher, painter, gallery director, but also loved music, especially singing and had been a devoted member of the Bethany Oratorio Society for 40 years as well as a Bethany Church choir member for 50 years.
Following his teaching career in Osborne, Hays and Salina schools, he became co-director of the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery, Lindsborg, in 1963. This association spanned a period of 18 years.
After retiring from his duties at the gallery in 1981, he has been an active studio artist specializing in watercolor painting, primarily Kansas Landscapes.  He served at Bethany College as a volunteer curator of the college art collection.
Carl is preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence LeRoy Peterson, Milton Peterson and Paul Peterson; and two sisters, Viola Dahlsten and Gladys Peterson.
Carl leaves to mourn his nephews, Alan Peterson, of Wichita, John Dahlsten, of Astoria, OR, Stanley Dahlsten, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lorin Peterson, of Wichita; nieces, Jeanne Bohr, of Longmont, Colo., and Elizabeth Larson, of Northfield, Minn.; and many great-nieces and -nephews and friends.

A memorial service was held on June 8 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg followed by a private burial in the Elmwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethany College or the Sandzen Memorial Gallery, in care of Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

     Dixie's Change of Address

Dixie is no longer at the Salina Regional Hospital and is back at the Sterlinghouse address given here.

Dixie DeLaney
Sterlinghouse
2251 E. Crawford
Salina, KS 67401

I've added this to the web site's Directory as a temporary address for Dixie.  In a couple of months or so Dixie expects to be back in her home (also listed in the web site's Directory).  But for a while, use the Sterlinghouse address.

     Dan Wiggans' Progress

In a recent phone conversation with Dan, he said he continues to make slow but steady progress in rehab.  He has regained some motion in his lower left arm, previously paralyzed completely.  He was going to see about using the facility's computer to send and receive e-mail.

    So What's New?                                       July '09

There are a lot of new things this month, so check out the usual places:

If you are using Internet Explorer and some of the menu buttons just above will not work when clicked upon, look just above the mustangs for this message:  "To help protect your security,..."  Click on that line to get some options and then click on "Allow blocked content."  All should now be well.  (The content being blocked are little pop-up windows, which normally are annoying ads.  Here, menu items like "Reunions" have pop-ups that I made so you can select the year, the grade school, etc.  There should never be any ads.)
