The Senior Centers
The Betty Ehart Senior Center, located at 1000 Oppenheimer is open from
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. The Betty Ehart Center
includes the administrative offices for the delivery of services to
over 1,682 registered persons. Phone 662-8920.
The White Rock Senior Center, a social, educational and recreational
center, is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. and is located at 137
Longview Drive. Phone 662-8200.
Transportation
This service is provided for Los Alamos County residents over 55 years
of age and handicapped adults on a space available basis. Two vans (one
equipped with a wheelchair lift), one minivan and a station wagon
operate from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 PM daily. Fares are $3.00 for each
one-way trip in Los Alamos county. Transportation is provided for medical appointments,
shopping, RSVP volunteer services, other personal needs of members and
to attend activities at the Senior Centers. Reservations 24 hours in

Case Management
The ase Manager focuses on those Seniors in the most economic
and social need and the frail elderly in coordination of in-home
services to delay institutionalization. In addition to the Senior
Program services, the Outreach Coordinator also works with the Visiting
Nurses, adult care manager (The Day Out), Los Alamos Family Council,
mental health counselors, the local nursing home director, and the Los
Alamos Medical Center social worker and discharge planner to secure
services for seniors.
Service for Low Income Seniors
Provision has been made through community donations to provide
transportation and home delivered meals, without charge, to Seniors who
are in financial need. Seniors are routinely referred for low income
assistance including housing assistance, SSI, food stamps, Medicare,
Medicaid, and Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries. Seniors in need of
financial assistance with rent or utilities are referred to the
H.E.L.P. Agency in Espanola.
Independent Living Support Services
To help Seniors live independently, daily telephone reassurance calls,
chore service referrals and employment referrals are offered in
addition to the transportation and meals. Requests for emergency and
medical transportation are referred to HELP, a volunteer transportation
service provided by the Lions Club. Through HIBAC, Seniors can receive
assistance with Medicare problems. During Income Tax season, AARP
volunteers help Seniors with simple tax forms.
Home Delivered Meals
The Betty Ehart Center provides home delivered meals for frail, home
bound seniors who are referred by a physician for this service. This
service is provided for a suggested donation of $4.50 per meal. Phone

Congregate Meals
Monday through Friday noon meals are served at the Betty Ehart Senior
Center. Meal entrees are published in the Monitor each Thursday
evening. Reservations are requested. The suggested donation for age 60
and over is $4.00. Younger members and guests are charged $7.50. Please

Retired and Senior Volunteers
The RSVP continues to develop volunteer opportunities for people over
the age of 55, focusing on the need for community involvement of the
frail elderly.
The Day Out
This adult care program is available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday
through Thursday with extended hours available to accommodate the working
care giver. The program provides a variety of supervised activities in
cheerful safe surroundings. Adults of all ages who may be lonely or
homebound due to short-term or long-term physical problems can benefit
from some time away from home with new friends. Door to door
transportation on a special handicap equipped van is available for
