May Guild Meeting - Life on the Edge or Unbounded Binding
Do you know 16 different ways to finish the edge of your quilting project?
So many different ways to finish the edge of quilt, which to choose? This lecture will review 16
different edge treatments for a quilt. Several treatments can also be using in the piecing of a
quilt for a variety of textures and looks. Instructions on each technique will be provided and
samples of each technique will be available as well as a discussion of how to execute the
Donna Smith will present this lecture and demonstration.
Along with our usual show and tell, we will now have a portion dedicated to a specific area. April was your favorite color; May will be your first quilt. Actual items or a picture is acceptable.
The President issued a challenge for the September show and tell. Members present selected a Crayola from a bag; their challenge is to make a quilt (any size) using the color they grabbed out of the bag. They were so enthusiastic about that idea that several took a second Crayola for their project. Crayolas will be available at the next two meetings.
We also discussed having another Sew-a-thon on a Saturday.

This workshop will explore machine trapunto techniques to add a
dimensional element to traditional quilts, wall-hangings or art quilts.
With innovations such as wash-out thread machine trapunto is easy and
creates dramatic effects.
Saturday September 16th, 2017 Time TBD Location - White Rock Presbyterian Church
Pick a pre-printed panel and have fun with threadpainting and
embellishing. We will threadpaint parts of the panel to provide emphasis,
definition and depth. We will not cover the entire panel with thread. This
technique adds a richness and uniqueness to a printed piece of fabric. No
threadpainting or free-motion quilting experience necessary.
This technique works really well on panels with birds, flowers, animals,
fairies, fruit, and cartoon dinosaurs. OK, basically any panel will be
more vibrant, rich and interesting when you are done.
Follow up the treadpainting with the Trapunto Workshop and add more
dimension to your panel. Participants do not have to take both workshops,
they can be independently.

All About Evolon
Evolon is a new non woven material that is taking the mixed media art world by storm.
Soft, smooth and white, with a slightly sueded surface, it can be painted, cut, stamped
and stitched through. Best yet, it doesn't ravel, so applique can be done neatly without
any tedious edge turning.
This one-day class will cover the basics of obtaining and using the material. We will paint it, fuse it, and explore using marker and watercolor pencils as well. A short slide show featuring the many pieces I have made using this material will be included, and sample quilts will be available in class for up- close discussion. Included in the class will be: sample size piece of Evolon, paints, watercolor pencils and markers.
Please contact me (Laura Erickson - email@example.com) to sign up for the class
and receive the supply list (no sewing machines needed)!
The UFO Challenge will stay open through our March meeting, so any projects that are
currently UFO's will still be eligible!
