The Los Alamos Heart Council presented an automatic external defibrillator (AED) to the Abiquiu Volunteer Fire Department in August. The AED is a portable device that can save the life of a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. The Heart Council has previously donated 12 other AEDs to various organizations in Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico. With some twenty-five volunteers, the Abiquiu Volunteer Fire Department provides fire and emergency protection and response in an area that includes Rio Chama up to the Abuquiu Echo Canyon Amphitheatre.
