Where is the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics located?
The Los Alamos School of Gymnastics (LASG) is located
in a modern facility on North Mesa, next to the

town, take Diamond Drive
past the golf course, proceed straight through
the turnabout onto North Mesa Road. The LASG is about 1 mile past the

on your right-hand side. The
visitor entrance is located near the east corner of the building, while
the staff entrance is located near the southwest corner.
What safety
precautions are used at the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics?

Instruction is provided on USAG-approved equipment. LASG instructors hold USAG Level 1-4

What is Loui Janecky’s
background?
Louise
Anderson (Loui) Janecky is responsible for
instruction and the daily operation of all LASG programs. She has been Head Coach and Director of
LASG since 1981. She has a B.S. in
physical education and an M.A. in education. Formerly a competitor at the national
level, she has been coaching and teaching with ages 2 through adult since
1972. As a USAG Professional
Member since 1976, she is a USAG National Safety Instructor, a USAG
National Skill Evaluator’s Certifier, a USAG National Meet
Director, a USAG Professional Coaches Certifier, and an ASEP Sport
Science Leader/ Instructor. She is
also a Red Cross Instructor of First Aid and CPR.
Recreational gymnastics classes are designed to
develop skills and coordination while providing an enjoyable recreational
experience in a noncompetitive setting, with a maximum 6:1 student to
teacher ratio. The Mommy and Me
class is for children ages 2-3 accompanied by an adult; the preschool
classes are for children 4-5; kinder-rec is for
children attending kindergarten; and elementary rec
is for children 6 years old and up.
Competitive gymnastics develops skills within a formal
competitive environment, including meets.
Gymnasts must have attained the skills necessary for entering each
competitive level. Pre-team is a
transitional class between recreational and competitive for gymnasts age
6 and up. Gymnastics classes track
the USAG levels. Competitive Teams
compete across the state in both a Fall (September to December) and a
Winter (January to March) season.
Class schedules, pricing and registration materials
can be obtained by calling the gym (662-9523) between 4 and 6 pm, Monday-Friday. You'll be surprised
by how economical our program is. Classes are charged on a monthly basis
so that we can schedule our coaches and teachers. We offer a 10% discount
on classes for additional children enrolled from a family, after the
first. An annual membership fee of $30 for recreational classes that meet
up to 1.5 hours per week, to cover liability insurance, is also required
to participate. The membership fee is $60 for classes that meet more than
once/week. Competitive gymnasts also must join the USA Gymnastics as
Athlete Members. Because we are a non-profit, member-owned and parent
operated organization, we keep our fees low in part through Volunteer hours
that are assessed on a per-family basis
Family
assistance in the form of volunteer work helps to keep the costs down for
our nonprofit, member-owned, parent-operated organization. Each family is assessed 2 hours per
month if its most advanced gymnast is in the competitive or after-school
program, and 1 hour per month otherwise.
A family may elect to pay a volunteer fee of $10/hour in lieu of
working. There are many types of
work opportunities, including jobs that can be done while waiting for
your gymnast in class or at home.
After-school programs
The Los
Alamos School of Gymnastics offers an after-school program that begins at
3:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday, and at 12:15 on Wednesday (to accommodate Los Alamos Public Schools elementary early
release). Children may be enrolled
for any number of days each week for a 4-week session. The program consists of a regular hour
and a half instructional class each day including bars, beam (girls),
tumbling, dance, vault, rings (boys) and trampoline. Alternate Gymnastics activities (zip
line, tumble trak, and pit) are also available
from the end of classes until pickup.
The
Summer Sports Camp is operated by the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics for
children ages 6 to 12. The Camp
offers flexible participation at a reasonable cost during the period June
– August. Children can be
dropped off at the School between 7:30 and 8 a.m., and must be picked up before 6
p.m. The Camp is operated by Loui Janecky. Loui develops
the program and supervises staff, including returning college students
and current LASG competitive gymnasts.
The Sports Camp schedule of activities includes gymnastics, team
sports, playing gymnastics oriented games and relays, swimming in local
outdoor pools, and going on field trips for skating, golf and other
sports activities.
Registration forms for recreational and competitive
gymnastic classes, and after-school program are
available for pick-up at the School Mon-Fri from 4-6 p.m., or call 662-9523 and ask for
registration forms to be mailed to you.
