Upper Tier Grotto Routes

Up_Grotto_rtes.jpg (79533 bytes)

The excellant basalt of the upper tier requies strength, skill, and anti-gravity boots for success. Or, possibly a deal with the devil. Approach Medussa or Rolling Brown Out from KSR, and approach Mary Poppins or Guillatine Crack from Good or Evil starting in the lower Grotto..

  1. Medussa  12c ***. Steep, smooth, long, and tweeky. Oh, and continuous. You'll have to keep at least one of your brains fully focussed.
  2. Rolling Brown Out  11+ ***. First attempted by an affectionate French visitor it was originally named Euro Fag. The first ascent was not done clean until the summer of 2001 (Josh Smith). Challenging crack climbing, stemming, bird shit avoidance, and gear placements prevail throughout. Rap anchors installed.
  3. Mary Poppins 12c  ***. Fabulous flying and nothing but net if you can't get your umbrella open in time for the crux sequence. Really, really exposed! A complete gambit with sections of slab, arete, face, and overhanging pinches on perfect basalt.
  4. Guillatine Crack 10d ***. Incredible hands to fists and back to hands for one long pitch. Take lots of # 2 camelots. The circles are around two climbers finishing the climb. Rap anchors installed.
