Conditions were perfect, much better than last year. Snow was
soft and fluffy, about 5 feet deep at Raven's ridge and along Windsor
Trail, and probably 6 to 7 feet deep at Puerto Nambe. Due to the soft
snow, the hike in and out required extra work. The snow was totally
pristine, and we had a very nice isolated mountain experience. Due to the
snowy weather conditions Saturday night and Sunday morning, we did not have
any enthusiasm to get up early and climb either Santa Fe Baldy or Penitente.

Recommendation for any future trips to Puerto Nambe: The hike in and out
is really pretty tough, and due to time pressure we haven't had a
successful climb either year we did this trip (although we were close in
04). I suggest that if we choose to do this trip again, we do it over a
three day weekend and spend two nights up there. This would give us an
unrushed day to hike around and actually climb the local peaks. I think
this would give the boys a more rewarding mountain experience. They really
busted their butts getting up there and back, and I think they would
appreciate a relaxed casual day.
