Troop 122 Committee Meeting Minutes
May 19, 2005

Present: Steve and Margo B; Jim G, Chris L, Joan and Steve S; Anita S, Ty H; bob and Peggy R,
Steve M, Jay E

Meeting called to order at 6:12 PM.

Volunteer positions: We may have a troop committee secretary identified. We do need
a volunteer to take over the troop advancement activities. This is a pressing need.

The next PLC is May 26 at 6:00 pm at the church.

Treasurer’s report: The troop balance is about $5000 clear in our account.

We have several community service activities coming up. Service to our chartering
organization will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22. On Saturday, we will
wash the parking lot and on Sunday, we will fill and seal cracks in the pavement. Bob R
is leading this effort.

On Memorial Day, we will have a small color guard of 4-6 Scouts participate in the county
ceremony at Guaje Pines. Steve B. is organizing this effort and will have a sign-up sheet
at the next meeting.

Ben B will have an Eagle project workday on Saturday, May 28 starting at 8:00 am at the
Lutheran Church. He will have a sign-up sheet and permission slips at the next meeting.

Margo B is organizing the Troop’s participation in the Gigantic Garage sale to be held
on May 21.

Indoor Program. Fingerprinting with Sgt. C tonight. May 2 will continue American Cultures
MB with Patrol corners and bonding for summer camp. The Scouts will make name plaques for
their tents. June 3 and 10 will be First Aid requirements for summer camp merit badges.
The troop will hold a summer camp gear shakedown on June 17. The proposed MB fair will be
held the week after summer camp.

Outdoor program. We had 19 Scouts and many adults on our El Morro campout – a great showing.
We have at least 4 Ordeal candidates signed up for the OA weekend May 20 and many present OA
members will attend.

The beginning backpack was canceled for the week of June 4 due to a lack of adult support.
It is rescheduled for July. There are several small kayaking trips scheduled for August.
Enrollment is limited. We are still planning our September 10 lake outing and Labor Day 14’er.
We do have some changes and fluidity in our summer outing schedule that we will be deciding
in some off-line discussions. Please give your opinions to Jay and Bob K.

Northern Tier. Bob K has enough Scouts signed up for 2 crews and almost enough adults.
There are also some Scouts on wait list. If we get another adult, we can add a third crew,
which will make the crews smaller and allow for wait-listed Scouts to participate.

Equipment purchase. We had a short discussion about purchasing cooking, etc. equipment
suitable for car camps. It was agreed that the troop should try to purchase 4 sets of
propane tanks, trees, hoses, lanterns, and 2-burner stoves. We will try to get the smaller
refillable propane bottles. Buying new propane equipment will get the troop out of the white
gas storage, transporting, and use business. Bob K took the task of costing these. We
are trying to keep the cost below $1000. We decided that the adults should fend for
themselves in terms of equipment. We hope to have another major equipment purchase in
the Fall targeted at tents, backpacking stoves, etc.

Eagle Project. Ben B’s proposed Eagle project to landscape and install a sprinkler
system in front of the Lutheran church was accepted. The first workday will be May
28. The second is tentatively scheduled for the Fourth of July weekend.

Meeting adjourned at 7:03 PM.
