Scouting for Food

Unit Leaders:
The Fall Scouting-for-Food Drive in Los Alamos and White Rock will be jointly conducted by the Boy Scouts of America and the Los Alamos Letter Carriers (NALC-4112)on Saturday, Nov 17th to support the LA CARES and the LA Community Food Bank.

Boy Scout Troops and Venture units will load/sort food in either Los Alamos or White Rock. Cub Scout Packs will set-up food collection points at Smith's grocery stores on Saturday in Los Alamos and White Rock locations.

DETAILS:

The Los Alamos Letter Carriers will deliver flyers in the mail, then pick-up and drop-off food to two sorting locations:

In Los Alamos, food sorting for LA CARES will take place at the United Methodist Church Hall at the corner of Diamond Drive and Canyon Road. Los Alamos Troops and Crews will unload and sort food from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Troops 22, 122, and 222, along with Crew 20 need to confirm this schedule with me ASAP.

Los Alamos Cub Packs will set-up tables and collect food donations at Smith's grocery stores on Saturday Nov 17th. The food can be taken to the Methodist Church Hall between 2 pm and 5 pm or call 310-3887 (my cell) for a pick-up at noon or later. Store shift times for Packs are nominally: 1) 9:30am-noon, 2) Noon-2:30 pm, and 3) 2:30 pm-5pm). Attached is a hand-out that Cubs can give out at the door. Plan to make several large posters to let people know you are collecting. Currently scheduled: Pack 222 8:30-9:30 am; Pack 27 and 229 9:30-noon. If possible I'd like either Pack 27 or 229 to switch to the afternoon.

In White Rock, sorting and loading for LA Community Food Bank (POC: Cheryl Sedlecek) will take place at the White Rock Post Office Yard (behind the Post Office). White Rock Troops and Crews will sort food from 2:00pm to ~5:00pm. Currently scheduled: Troop 71 2:00-3:30 pm; Troop 422 3:30-5:00 pm. Tentatively Troop 326 is scheduled from 3:30-5:00pm but I need them to confirm. I also need Troop 422 and/or Troop 326 to let me know if they can provide transportation of the food to storage (tentatively the 1st Baptist Church in Los Alamos).
