Cub Scout Training Opportunities

Step 1: Cub Scout Leader Fast Start - an introduction to being a leader in Cub Scouts; available on the web.

Step 2: New Leader Essentials (NLE) - This is a 90-minute course for all new leaders (Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity and Venturing) and interested adults. It is an overview of the entire BSA program; focuses on the aims, ideals and methods used in each of the parts of the BSA program; and emphasizes the progression from one part of the program to the next. New Leader Essentials is best taken before Leader Specific Training.

Step 3: Cub Scout Leader Specific Training - the next offering for this course is April 29, 2008 from 6:30-9:00pm at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road, Los Alamos. Please RSVP to Carol Neal at 662-7256 or email Carol if you are interested. This course covers in-depth training for Wolf, Bear and Webelos Den Leaders.

OTHER TRAINING

Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat training (pdf) document should be used as a reference for BSA aquatics by an "approved" trainer (contact Jennifer Kennedy for a list of trainers). It is partially extracted from the "Guide to Safe Scouting" which is also available online at the GSWC website. This information needs to be covered when conducting unit-level training for these two courses (usually in a combined class).

For more training information, please look at the NNM Training Calendar or contact Pippa Freyer, NNM Training Chairman.
